We had that one too Yogi, bought by one of my older sisters. I'd forgotten all about some records having no centre and having to put that thingy in.
I had an orange record player and used to go to sleep listening to Donny. I was a bit obsessed.
By the time I got in to music properly (about 10 or 11), we had one of these. Thought it was the business.
That's modern, compared the radiogramm my parents had when I was wee. It looked similar to this.
I had a Mr. Hit and, like Yogi, listened to it in bed.
It was a second hand 78" of Johnnie Ray's song Just walking in the Rain on a white elephant stall at the school jumble sale
The first 7" I can remember buying was David Cassidy Daydreamer
I was about 7 my parents had bought a new record player and they gave me the money to buy a single of my choice.
Ooh, I love this thread already
Although it only has a small shelf life as once everyone answers that it
Anyway back to the point. I believe the single below was purchased for me by my parents when I was a babe in arms. I can't remember what the first one I bought was.
Don't ask me what they are singing about, it sounds like a foreign language!
DDDBM&T they were fandabbydozy
I had and loved The Legend of Xanadu by them.
First single with my own money
I think it was Ballroom Blitz by The Sweet!
A few early purchases that I can recall.
First album was Adam and the Ants 'Prince Charming'.
Don't actually recall my first single.
First single was Back Street Luv by Curved Air and first album was Led Zepplin11- still love those. Think I must have been cool when I was 14
There is one glaring observation this thread has thrown up, you can date people by their purchases (cue One Direction jokes). Unless you were a late starter in record buying, or did not have much disposable income until you were 30 or maybe I'm, over thinking this one... as you were.
are friends electric, tubeway army......
Oh Cold Sweat. Pig Bag just gave me a huge smiling blast from the past. I remember going to a teeny boppers disco every week and we used to do some very odd dance to it.
I went on a quest to see if I could find anything on youtube with the funny little pigbag dance on it. I didn't but I found this. I loved this track.

If that is your first purchase IMO that is a great first.

Do you still like the record or have you gone off it over the years?
