I saw this thread title and thought oh god there's been another white goods massacre at Aimees house.

Aimee I think they vary so much. Our normal fridge keeps everything cold on 3, but we've just bought a smaller fridge to keep drinks in and it has to be set at 6 to keep them chilled.

Aimee is my forum daughter didn't you know? If I told you the current state of play with white goods in my kitchen you wouldn't believe me - you'd think I was copying.

I think we are very closely genetically linked.

 I've tried turning it down but then things don't seem cold enough, the eggs were frozen solid, the back wall of the fridge should run with water and there's a  channel to catch the water but mine keeps freezing

Aimee, it also depends on how much you have in the fridge and the outside temp can also have an effect at times too. What's the MIN and MAX numbers? i.e. is it 1 to 5, 1 to 8, or higher?

1-5 I've turned it down to 4 and the back wall is not frozen now  it's not over full, I put meat on the bottom shelf and it seems only that shelf  that it's happening to

Mine's 1-5 too. I never have it at 5 as everything will freeze, I generally have it just under 2, but if there's very little in the fridge (doesn't happen often) I set it at 1. Like you if I put stuff on the bottom shelf it might freeze and if I want to defrost stuff in the fridge I put it on the top shelf as it won't defrost on the bottom shelf and might not defrost fully on the middle shelf. At times, if the fridge is extremely full, I'll turn it to 3 or 4. This is because if it's very full the air won't circulate so the temp won't be even in the normal way, but watch out for liquids as they might freeze depending on whereabouts they are.

Just a thought Aimee, knowing your relationship with white goods. It is a fridge you're using and not a freezer isn't it?

Think I will turn it down a bit further then, I've got it on 4 at the moment  I had one of those bowls of salad and even that has froze

Mine is set on four (4).

Everything is held at a nicely cool temp.

But my fridge only goes up to 11 (lol - Spinal Tap joke there) actually it goes up to 5.

Aimee, you could get a fridge thermometer for your fridge. As a guide, the best temperature in a fridge is 3 to 5 C. If the thermometer shows a lower temperature turn the dial to a lower number, and if the thermometer shows a higher temperature turn the dial to a higher number.

 ! Also make sure nothing's touching the back wall of the fridge

Sounds like the right solution to me. (Btw Aims, eggs , (like tom's,) should never be stored in the fridge)
