I'd take it to the cops. Even if it leads nowhere her card's marked in one way or another - and it should be     And if it bust a basketball jeez - that's a set of teeth.

As far as I understand things a dog owner is responsible for any damage their dog does TO ANYTHING, no matter how trivial.

The dog was off lead and out of control, and it tried to bite someone before it burst the basketball. I would definitely report it to the police, Pirate.

Me too  I hate to see dogs not on leads, there's a bloke at the end of my road who has 3 Rottweilers in his garden, they got out and was running down the middle of the road like a pack of wolves with kids running in all directions

it really scared me as I'm frightened of dogs and what would I do if they had got hold of one of the kids, it scares me just walking past the garden, you see people running in to the road when they don't know their there and then they bark at you 

I would think nothing can be done unless someone is attacked by which time its too damn late. On the other hand if they can can escape they are a danger too everyone.

It is against the law to allow a dog to be dangerously out of control. If this dog was attempting to bite someone before it burst the ball, then it was out of control - and it happened in a public place.

I havent read all replies Pirate but when i was a kid we had a big German shepherd. the neighbors lad used to tease him and throw stones at him... One day he got out and chased the lad... the lad ran up a fence but not before the dog ripped his coat.

They took us to court and my mom and dad had to pay for the coat and get rid of the dog

Moonie I have 2 dogs and with all of the horrid stories you hear about dog attacks, I would be happy if it became a law that when dogs were in public spaces they had to be muzzled. 

That's how I understand it.
