It's just been announced that Iain Banks has died. He said in April that he had been diagnosed with terminal cancer.
He had finished his last book The Quarry. It will be released on the 20th but 3 weeks ago he was presented with copies of the printed book and was able to enjoy celebration parties with friends and fans.

Ditty, you've basically said what I was going to post. The Wasp Factory was my favourite book of his too.
awwwno.. just read a couple of days ago he was going to give chemo a try to see if it would extend his life any .
Thanks to donks, I've realised I can get BBC Scotland programmes dahn sarf. So for those who are interested I saw a trailer that there will be a programme about the great man tomorrow/today there. Couldn't find out what time but hope some of my Scottie homies will let me know.
