Charles is a boiled egg man

Cooking a tea-time egg for the Prince of Wales, as we know, is not a simple  task.

Tales of staff boiling up to seven at a time to meet his tastes for rock hard  or runny are legendary. But yesterday the real lengths to which his chefs would  go were revealed by the man with the pan.

Former royal chef Mervyn Wycherley, who worked for Charles and Princess Diana  for 13 years, said the prince's bodyguards would radio ahead of his arrival to  warn him when to start boiling the water.

Royal tastes: Prince Charles

'The Prince always used to have his tea between 4pm to 5pm. In particular, he  liked to have his boiled eggs with crumpets when he got in from hunting,' Mr  Wycherley said.

'His eggs had to be boiled for exactly four minutes. It was never anything  other than a four-minute egg. His detectives radioed his ETA ahead, so I always  kept three pans boiling - just to be safe
