My bathroom hot water tap in the washbasin gradually produced less and less water until it stopped this week.

So tonight I went on YouTube and found out why, watched the video of a guy making the repair and I have subsequently spent the last 15 mins performing the repair myself.

And it WORKED !!!!

My first bit of plumbing and I am chuffed to bits and it has saved me bringing in a plumber - I feel quite pleased with myself, so much so I am going to crack open a bottle of shandy.

Thank you, thank you.

I would just like to thank a few people.

My parents without whom I would never have had the opportunity to mend the tap.

My sisters for making my childhood a misery. A misery which has made me a stronger person, one who takes on the challenges of life with gusto and optimism.

Thanks also to The Human League, Gary Numan, Blancmange, Heaven 17, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Cabaret Voltaire, The Thomson Twins, New Order, John Barry, Talking Heads, Dead Can Dance, Skinny Puppy, Bach, Charlotte Church, Peter Tosh, Gil Scott Heron, Ennio Morricone, Depeche Mode, Talk Talk, The Fall, The Smiths, Joy Division, David Sylvian and Goldfrapp for providing the soundtrack to my life.

To Cadbury's. I just love your chocolate.

I would also like to thanks Debenhams for having a 70% off sale, I managed to buy enough pairs of socks for ÂĢ40 to last me two years.

A special shout to Victoria Coren.

Thanks to Apple Inc, I love your products and they helped me find a fix for the tap.

And lastly I would like to thank all the members of this forum for their continued support and love. Massive hugs and kisses to all - you are the best...

I fixed mine too but with loads of sealant and gunge etc

I keep hearing 'noises' as I lie in bed in early morning  I'm currently waiting for the ceiling to fall in on me so I can claim on the insurance

No, since last year, plumbers won't believe me that I can hear 'sounds' and have cracks in the ceiling. Hence why I'm tired and can't get any proper sleep these days, for when I'm listening out for 'noises'

Seriously Roger, believe me it's not. I have heard splutterings in my bedroom but haven't got the money to sort it. While back bedroom has already had a leak and had to pay to replace old pipeworks and still has hole in ceiling where the water has come through. I've had plumbers back several times but they won't believe me and think there's nothing wrong but still won't go up into the loft where the original leak started. (It's an old 1930's house)

sorry if I have upset you Sprout

Does your home insurance cover it,surely it's better for them to fix any problems and  prevent major damage to the ceiling.

Uh oh sounds worrying. Hope it won't lead to anything

Damp and  water leaking from the ceiling must be so unpleasant to live with, poor you  Sorry you haven't money to fix it a.t.m.

Why wouldn't they go up to the loft? Its your house, you should know.
