hahahaha!

I have seen even worse trial results on cosmetic adverts..   once you start reading that little white writing in the corner every time an advert for face cream comes on you can't stop...

the number of participants is always ridiculously low (waaay below what would be considered a viable study in terms of a clinical audit)..   and the percentage of women that agree with the statement is never that good..

and half of them probably only give good feedback in the hope that they will get more freebies next time L'Oreal or Lancome or whoever launch a new product

How true. I've noticed that on many adverts of this nature.

But I wonder why they sell so much of it. Most women I know are not stupid, but some of them swear by this stuff, one spending best part of a hundred quid a month on all sorts.

well..   we do need some face cream....  whatever our age..

most of us know that cost doesn't necessarily equate to results (the No.7 Protect & Perfect hype confirmed that)...    but sometimes you just have to give these things a go...

What I like about the expensive stuff is...     the packaging     Tis like the iPhone packaging...     Top notch cosmetics are the same..     Doesn't necessarily mean they are any good (or right for you...   millions of women swear by Cliniques dramatically different moisturiser..  I hate it so much I used the bottle I had on my feet)...

The supermarket level stuff..    Garnier/L'Oreal/Olay etc..     tis a suck it & see type thing..   but I have found the cheap shit feels like lard on your face..  where as the stuff that costs about Β£15 at least absorbs & smells nice.

Aldi's stuff is cheap as chips and really good (thank you Soops for the snake venom serum tip...   I still use it from time to time)...

There is only one really expensive product I lust after..     one that I (am lead to believe) actually works as it says it will..    & thats Creme de la Mer..   tis out of my price bracket though...     That said, if I did get lucky enough to have some...  and it didn't make me look shit loads younger it would get chucked in the drawer destined for use on feet & elbows alongside the clinique stuff

I'm sure I have seen a programme on TV where they said the best skin moisturiser is a good healthy diet, plenty of water and don't overdo the sun. Also that the creams don't actually penetrate that far into the skin.

it penetrates deep enough to stop my dry areas going scaley..    stops my face feeling all tight after I have washed it..

And..   I dunno about other people, but if I put make up on without moisturising I am in danger of getting a furry face/cracked bits/cakey eyeshadow (old lady eyelids)/uneven coverage

However...   I do agree that diet, hydration & sun protection are are the things that will slow down skin aging..     For me face creams are more part of my daily grooming regime I think...     In fact, this thread has made me realise that I don't actually expect face creams to have any real effect on the aging process..   I just like the ones that make my skin feel better, and look better on the day of application

Maybe some of the cosmetic firms should ask the right questions to see how many other women think this way..    then they could start reeling off a more targeted pitch about their products

Once again..  a case of knowing the right questions to ask

To be honest, I have been using a few items myself (I should mention it for balance). I wet shave every other day and use Nivea after shave balm around the face and especially the neck as it can flare a little. I'm not sure how much difference it makes, but I think it makes a little difference, unless it's just psychological.

I also use a lip balm - now I know these work as without using it my lips can become sore, cracked and feel generally sensitive. I have just bought Melon Burst and it tastes nice compared to the non flavoured one.
