Food wise, I suppose it would depend on what it is.  

Any liquids in hand luggage must be under 100ml i.e perfume, make up bottles etc.

And I don't think she's allowed food unless she buys it airside.

My hand luggage is usually full of shoes (to save the weight), ipods and their leads/plugs plus my usual 'handbag' stuff such as purse, fags etc.

Cheers for the that the bliddy footie kit is taking up so much room , she took food last time, just cereal bars, crisps and sweets etc but I can't  remember which bag I packed them in

Tbh Aimee, I've never really had to take notice of the rules regarding food but you can pack pretty much anything you like if it's going in the hold.  Whichever airline she's flying with will have a page of do's and dont's so it's best to check with them online

Are those bags that you suck all the air out with a hoover any good if it's space as opposed to weight that's the issue - alternatively do you know of a shop or someone with a vacuum packer?

While i like your thinking Soozy i just lol'd at the thought of Lil Aims trying to find a vacuum packer in Gambia for the return journey

I was just going to suggest that Soozy 

but are the football kits not for the Gambian kids?  If not then surely whoever is arranging this trip should be responsible for the kits not the likes of Lil Aims????  Surely it's this that's gonna take up the room and give extra weight - if they stay in Gambia, the return journey would mean the suitcase is lighter

This is what is peeing me off about the weight, it's a nightmare trying to get her stuff in as well as the kit, I agree with you that it shouldn't be the kids that are responsible for it and yes the kit will be staying there

Good idea but we have been told it's got to stay in the bag it came in and be packed that way, theres even 2 bliddy footballs to go in i'll be grey by saturday and of course lil Aims wants to take the kitchen sink as well

Roll up t-shirts and shorts for the hand luggage, you should get plenty in if they're just flimsy holiday clothes.  You can usually take food but not drinks in your hand luggage.

Aims with the Argos vacum bags you could still keep them in the bags (I think). You could vacum pack all Lil Aims T shirts etc. as well.
