I haven't used messenger in years.  I started using it again a couple of years ago, but then I realised that the person MSN'ing me was actually only trying to manipulate me in to doing crap they would never have the balls to do themselves.

As for Skype, I've used it once, but to be honest when I'm at home on my computer I'm in my nightwear with no make up and hair all over the place, so the last thing I'm about to do it start having webcam skype chats with anyone.

Just go text/speech only Sprout, my 10yr old skypes her cousin all the time and sometimes they just chat on mics no cam and others purely messages back and forth, im sure you can set it to how you personally would like to use it

I don't like Skype!

I used it once to talk to a forum member.......luckily unfortunately my laptop at the time had no microphone or camera......so I could only type, but I could still hear/see the person I was chatting to. Every time I typed something I could hear her reading it out loud to herself before she answered.

A few days later I started receiving odd spam messages on it....then my laptop caught a virus of some sort. I blamed it on Skype and uninstalled it and have used it since. I have no idea if I was right to blame Skype.....but it was a great excuse to get rid of the thing!

I use AIM everyday to talk to my son at uni. It's AOL's version of MSN. The latest version is the last they are making though, so like MSN, it looks like they are getting rid.

Ducky

Ducky I hated AIM.  I only used that for contacts I liked to plat literati against, but one woman on it became so obsessive (and they had a function that it could shake your screen on their command), even if I had myself as signed offline when I was online she used to shake it and send me mental messages "I know you're there" "I know you're avoiding me" and they were the tame ones.  I eventually replied to one of her 'I know you're" screen shakes, saying "I KNOW YOU'RE MENTAL"

You can use it like messenger though - we use it at work to speak to suppliers.  No video though.
