Be interested to know what you're paying for a pint, assuming it's bottled. Four pints out Lidl for a quid here.

I used to have milk delivered but then found I was using it up, now I buy it only when I need it as I don't drink and no-one has cereal for breakfast and I buy a paper when I go to the shops

Yes indeed! Normally I'm frugal but the milk comes from a farmers co-op. (They've been struggling) Living in the country you see all sorts of sharp practice by supermarkets and where I can, I go local.

with the amount of news on TV and online we wernt reading the papers and I told my milkie to do one after knocking me up at 5am for his money after leaving my monthly cheque in an envelope in an empty that he hadnt seen   I wasnt the only one in my rural Lane that he did this to so we all quit 

 

 

 

The point about online news is interesting too! I like to go somewhere quiet, read the paper and do the crossword. Everything seems a bit too quick and  rushed on the PC!

We don't have anyone in the area that delivers newspapers, apart from the Ronnie Gill, but we don't read that.  As for milk, I probably should get it delivered daily as Master Cinds drinks it like its going out of fashion.

I used to have my milk delivered but stopped on the day that I found a small piece of glass in the milk. I could see where it had broken off the rim of the bottle. Luckily I saw it before I swallowed the milk.

I don't, but 2 of my neighbours do and it makes me smile to see the old style bottles on the door step

Up until a few years ago we had a milkman.  He was very old and a gentleman.  He retired so we stopped getting our milk delivered.  I miss it though as I love milk and we're forever running out.

 

We also have a spud man (fruit and veg aswell as eggs)and a mobile shop which comes round twice a day even though there are shops in all directions, 

I used to get my milk from the milkman when it came in glass bottles, because I loved the creamy top of the milk in my cereal. Now that it's in cartons, I just buy it at the local shops. I get the weekly local paper delivered but buy daily newspapers from the local newsagent.

Still get both papers and milk delivered.

 

Dave is our milkman but he only visits on Mon, Weds and Fridays.  It's all from a local farm that's just half a mile up the lane from here.  I get a dozen eggs from Dave too (on a Friday).

As for newspapers...the delivery boys must hate us cos we have The Times, FT, Independent, Guardian and god knows a load of mags (Private Eye, Spectator, various business and industry glossies etc)... then there's the Saturday ones with all their supplements.  I think Sunday is the only time we get just 2 papers.

   

We gave it a go, having our milk delivered..   pretty much for the reasons Joe does (supporting local farmers co-op).    The bloke from the co-op that first knocked on our door asking for our business was lovely...  so we were all aglow at "doing our bit" and at having our milk delivered.

 

The actual milkman was a right nasty grumpy old sod though...    objected to payment being left outside in empties, knocked for payment at random times (from stupid o clock on a weekend morning, to school run time midweek)...    to the extent where we binned him.

 

The co-op might have wanted our business, but the milkman that actually delivered it really didn't.

 

We get our milk from the supermarket now.

 

And we haven't bought a paper for years (get our news online or on telly)

Get milk delivered and it costs 62p a pint. The price of milk at the supermarket is totally unsustainable unless we start factory farming our cattle like the Yanks do

Forgot to say that I have a really nice milk lady who turns up at the same time every Friday night for her money

I used to get milk delivered (don't use it myself) and newspapers.  The milk man was supposed to drop it off on arranged days but did it when he liked and half of it got nicked.  He'd then not accept payment for ages and knock the door expecting to be paid upwards of £100 so I got rid of him.

 

The papers became too expensive to have delivered so I get one everyday at the news agents.

 

I do have the pop man every Friday because I drink a lot of pop and he's about 55p per bottle so can't complain
