That was my first thought too.
I admire the technical skill behind it, but I agree with other FMs that it makes her look a lot older.
It's like the painter has tried to make her look more regal and in so doing, more like the Queen. The painter's put 15 years on her.
I wonder if they will hang the original in the toilet ?

Must have missed that first time around. 
Still catching up on the papers. I saw a photo in the Times which showed the painting as viewed between other people at the gallery.
Much improved!
Sometimes you have to see them in a gallery, at different distance and different angle.
One of my favourite works of art was S. Dali's St John of the Cross. However on actual viewing it was a great (small) disappointment.
Imo, it makes her look way older than she is .... I'm not a fan of this portrait.
I saw it the other day on Twitter, and in all honesty I think it's dreadful.
If I was her, I would have put a massive block on that being put in the public eye.
