An Italian priest has provoked outrage after putting up an article that said women were partly to blame for encouraging domestic violence by failing to clean their houses and cook properly and for wearing tight and provocative clothing.

I came here expecting to see a picture of myself, but was disappointed to see an article about a complete loon, letting down the male half of the species with his crazy fool rantings !!

The mayor of Lerici, Marco Caluri, said on Thursday the article was "astonishing and deeply offensive" and the bishop of La Spezia ordered it to be taken down, saying it contained "unacceptable opinions which are against the common position of the church".
he also mentioned that choirboys get abused because of those saucy garments they wear behind the alter adding 'they might just as well write 'im gagging for it' on the robes'

Ugh. Though I did hear a priest say nearly the same thing once, last time I was dragged to mass in the early 90's... something along the lines of "God gave them that love" and the marriage should endure despite even problems like domestic violence etc.
Of course the Catholic church has come a cropper since then.

Thats sad but not terribly surprising. Sometimes you wonder whats going on in that country.
Ok this isn't a direct analogy... but I worked as an au pair in Spain Summer 1991... I was shocked at what intelligent, professional Spanish women put up with... it was unbelievably sexist and derogatory to women. I was glad to get back home.
