Shoppers visiting an Ikea outside Toronto, Canada, yesterday afternoon were treated to the usual sights: couples bickering over soft furnishings, shoppers stuffing meatballs into their mouths, a monkey wearing a sheepskin coat â wait, what?
Toronto Police Staff Sgt Ed Dzingala revealed the monkey was a pet whose owners left it in their car while they joined the herds perusing Scandinavian-inspired flatpack furniture.
After breaking out, the "smart monkey" was spotted in the Ikea parking lot and confined by staff until it was captured by animal control officers.
The critter was returned to its owners unharmed, though apparently a little "scared" by its 15 minutes of fame
