I dont get it, why would the hunt for possible child abusers turn into a gay witch hunt?

said the same thing, talk about deflection.

Thats what I thought, Cameron trying to deflect what MP's in his own party might have been doing in the past to this bizarre comment about witch hunt for gays.
Who cares about who might be gay, thats not even an issue with this.
Schofield has issued a grovelling apology!!
Schofield has issued a grovelling apology!!
I think he did wrong in doing that, so it's fair for him to apologise, but I think the gay witch hunt thing is daft.
So if it just so happens that a gay MP abused a child in the past we shouldn't say anything about it, incase some idiots start on the anti gay bandwagon?...that is just wrong.
Gay or straight child abusers need to be outed and jailed.
Schofield has issued a grovelling apology!!
Noooo i was so hoping he wouldnt do that!!
Where did it come from?
Who decided we needed an election for this? Why was it decided we needed an election on this?
An election no one asked for that is a magnet for every table thumping demagogue, party place-man and egotist going. A stupid, pointless election and another stupid idea from idiot politicians who think that if Americans do it, it must be a good idea by definition.
A farce organised by a party that is so sensitive to accusations of wasting tax payers' money, we have a ludicrous situation where no public money can be spent on campaigning. The result - most people haven't received candidate literature or even know who the candidates are. P**s up, brewery?

Ok, Philip didn't apologize for doing it, but he has said sorry for making it visible to the camera

...was visible enough to be made out Jen. Certainly haven't seen the names anywhere so far.

"misjudged camera angle" poor Camera man getting the blame .
Cameron wasn't the least bit bothered when the BBC were at the centre of Savile's web and the right wing were doing their usual "BBC poll tax of the airwaves, not fit for purpose" routine. Now it's the Tories! Are they "not fit for purpose" now? Do they need to be shut down? Cameron wasn't bothered when various celebrities' names were in the press long before being interviewed by police. Now it's Tory MPs, all of a sudden the media has to be at arm's length.
I'm no fan of Cameron but I don't think he was too far off the mark when he mentioned a gay witch hunt. It's been seen in the past what happens when married MPs are outed as gay. People revel in the news. All sorts of speculation about thier private lives. Mention one of them in a child abuse case and you just know all hell is gonna break loose. We might be open minded on here and able to debate rationally but there is and always will be a section of the population who see gay men as perverts who have a taste for young boys. Harsh but true. Take the fame and the politics out of it and you still see it happening in every day life. I think Cameron may have added fuel to the fire with his words though. The fact that he mentioned it will make people suspicious. Nothing better than a good old gossip and conspiracy theory eh? As I said in the other thread...this needs to be left to the police. This Morning cornered him and I think he handled it relatively well considering he was put on the spot. It took away from the actual issue he was there to discuss too. I wonder how many people took note of the actual topic he was there to discuss and how many went off googling trying to find the names of the gay MPs "possibly" linked to the JS case? This is a VERY serious case and in a way it's turned into a farce. I feel for anyone abused but go to the police....not your local tv/radio station. May as well go on Jeremy Kyle. With the proper media coverage this has no chance of being covered up now and rightly so. The abusers need to be brought to justice...BUT...by the police and not the media and especially not by internet hate sites. Anyone named in this case could use the media coverage as a basis for an unfair trial.
I think Cameron cocked up big time with his *gay witch hunt* gaff..he knew the names on the list and presumed only boys had been abused by these men, what made him come to this conclusion..why did'nt he think girls had been abused because he knows them and knows what their preference is..

You've hit the nail on the head there. Some of these survivors did go to the police, or they told adults in authority, or adults charged with their care. They weren't listened to and, in some cases, were actually punished for saying anything. It's no surprise that they are now relying on the media to keep the subject in the public eye.
I wasn't impressed by Schofield's stunt and could understand Cameron's response, as he obviously feels that these are names that have been gossiped about for being closeted gay men and may have been connected to child abuse merely for being possibly gay.
slightly still on topic...
I am soooo not having any of this voting for a police boss crap...
Who the hell asked that we be able to do this? I refuse to play ball.. Cameron can shove his police election where the sun don't shine!
Gawd.. if we were going to spend money on balloting, there are so many more important issues we could have had a referendum on
Oh I soooo agree. I had originally thought about going and spoiling my paper with something like "why the hell should I do your job for you? I don't employ the manager of my local Tesco and I dont expect to have to do your recruiting - especially when my mother, who wouldn't recognise an Internet if it knocked on her door, is unable to formulate an opinion etc etc" ...
... but then, I can't be bothered, and I thought I would join the (probably about) 90% of non-voters
I vote by post and I did spoil my paper with something along the lines of this is a load of carp
It is a load of carp. I object also to the fact that I get a sort of annual newspaper / p.r. exercise sent out by my police force telling us all how great they are [ when in reality complaints about that force went up considerably in the last two years].
Like this election, something no-one wanted or asked for but we all have paid for.
