I quite like Robbie's new single "Candy"..it's catchy..

Nick Grimshaw is an idiot.

But he is spot on.

What does 'relevant' mean anyway?  Robbie has hardly been cutting edge at any point in his career.  Relevant to whom?  I expect he's relevant to his fans just as the Stones are relevant to theirs.  Did Radio One deem the younger Robbie as 'relevant' ten years ago when he was doing his cheesy, Vegas old timers' ersatz Sinatra routine ten years ago?

It was the people at Radio 1 that decide the playlists & stuff that decided Robbie did not fit their target audience...    (Radio 1 has been told it has to reach a younger demographic - they had to agree to achieve this as part of some negotiations to do with license fees - yeah, I don't know the ins & outs of it - google will tell you more!)

Anyways...   it was just poor Grimmy that got collared to give a statement about it...  he had to support the stations official stance on this.

That said, I don't think Grimmy is a secret fan of Robbies music (though he did say he likes Robbie as a person).

I like Grimmy - his breakfast show is a vast improvement on the Chris Moyles ego show!

But the playlists are a bit crap - but its the mediocre pop music of the teen demographic (hey - it can take a few years to develop some taste )

I do think had "Candy" been any good they might have given him a few plays...   it is an atrocious bit of tosh though.    I like some of Robbies past songs..   but this offering reminded me of when Adam Ant released "Puss n boots"

How on earth did he go from "Let me Entertain You", "Angels", even "Rock DJ" to this current bit of tiddldy dee crap?

I don't fit the new demographic target audience btw ...

they'd be gutted I like the new formats (still loving Zane Lowes show, & Scott Mills)

every now & then I switch over to Radio 2 and within seconds realise that whilst I might not be the desired audience for Radio 1 anymore...  I have soooo not reached an age where Radio 2 'speaks to me'

(does admit to listening to Radio 4 a bit though )

Chris Moyles - One of the reasons why I avoided Radio One for so long.

Even though I am a northern lad, they can keep him down south.
