Dictators rarely have time for a sense of humour. The irony of them is that they fear more than the people they force in to a life of fear. Where fear exists, humour fails to thrive. Grace and humanity breed humour.

Beautifully put.

Much thanks Slinkiwitch x and you Dame Ann  I have witnessed enough to know that laughter is barren in those climates nearer the hierarchy of the dictator, but further and in between it can occur.

I think a dictator is borne out of some recreation of a corrpt ideology or one entirely of their own creation. The perpetuation of it is driven by their complete sense of entitlement and therefore they fear no-one and nothing.

So that is why in the last few instances the world has witnessed the 'fearless' Sadam and Gadaffi hiding away in holes in the ground when their end games awaited?

No. That was their reality hit.

No. That was their reality hit.

When the fear that kept them in power surrounded by equally fearful subordinates became real, and tangible perhaps.

Exactly. They only understood what fear was when the infrastructure of tyranny began to self-destruct.

Well I beg to differ, in return. I offer my view without nodding in agreement with myself and based on what I have witnessed. If these exceptions to humanity were without fear they would walk boldly and humbly amongst their own and not surrounded by militia, propaganda and henchmen and women. If when they realised that their constructs of power were diminished they would not scurry in to sewers and drains but head high like their previous reality.

Apologies for my self-affirming use of a smiley. I thought it considerate and to infer my comment as being non-confrontational. I note your use of them to infer abundant friendship.

However, to the discussion in hand. I believe, and I'd appreciate that you note I say believe, the use of power begins at the top of a state structure and that therefore any despot has no need to mingle with the minions because they are already established through a regime of fear from below.

And I also believe we will never find common ground on this for many reasons so wish you goodnight.

woops! Timing! !

I think they way things are playing out in Putinland ain't the way he envisaged. There's a groundswell of popular support for PussyRiot. The Church has even asked for leniency. Putin himself reportedly said the courts shouldn't be too hard on them ( note how he tried to imply there's some kind of dividing line between state and the legal system there !)

Hehehe. The Politburo to Portofino in one seamless move.
