I watched this northern lass earlier run herself into the ground to gain 7th place in the semi-final of the 1500m. A placing that, as it turned out, was just good enough to gain her a place in the final! Her sense of achievement and joy was refreshing to see - but i feel slightly ashamed that i don't even know who she is.

Having read several threads on various forums over the past couple of weeks already crowning Queana The Great BB13 Winner i find myself questioning whether BB adulation is a little... over the top?

Luke S or Sara reaching the BB13 final versus northern lass reaching the 1500m at London 2012 isn't even a contest... yet i still don't even know her name.

Honest politicians versus dishonest politicians might be my next thread ... or perhaps something for consideration after BB/Olympics finish.

...or even BBC employees being paid too much and putting in for their expences. It's all a farce. Thank the Lord the Olympics have gone down so well. GB has done a good job as host and competitor.

Now that is a sub-forum all of it's own if ever i saw one!

To be fair, not many of us measure up to the sheer dedication of Olympians.  The Olympians are inspirational in a good way, in that they make people strive for fame (and fortune maybe) by sheer hard work leading to excellence.

Compare the photos of the 12 year old Laura Trott wearing Bradley Wiggins' gold medal with any BB housemate staggering out of a club!

Most of us have staggered out of a club, and no doubt, Olympic athletes have themselves at various times.  But what if that's one of the main things you do to earn your living???

BB housemates are inspirational in a bad way, as they make people strive for fame (and fortune maybe) by short cuts and notoriety.

BB Housemate: A boob job, a six pack, looks over substance - fame and fortune for its own sake - via the path of least resistance.

Olympian: years of pain, self denial and even a career of just not being quite good enough to take the glory.

More of us would take the BB housemate as an 'inspiration'.

I don't see BB contestants as inspirational as I'm sure most don't, they're just a collection of people from different backgrounds looking for a so called "experience" with the chance of winning big money. I've come across many people who I think of inspirational for all their various reasons, and those who ceaslessly work hard for many years to achieve their goal as sportsmen/women deserve to be recognised as inspiring for their dedication.
