"The Fields of Athenry". My husband's friend Pat was over watching it with us last night and I asked him the same thing. It was lovely.
Was it the one that went, "La, la, la, laaahhhh" ?
Was it this one . I love this.

Yep that's it.
We sing when we're winning but also when losing
Hairs at the back of the neck and all that.
Let's hope we can get a rousing chorus of Vindaloo going tonight!
You're welcome Gararrrge. I wasn't paying that much attention to the match and then I waddled in towards the end and was mesmerised and a little teary (especially when our guest started belting it out too). Like Col said, hairs at back of my neck. I'm crying at the drop of a hat these days but even my husband and sons thought it was lovely to see and were quite moved. It's going to be my summer now, crying at every medal ceremony during the Olympic games.

By a lonely prison wall,
I heard a young girl call:
"Michael, they have taken you away,
For you stole Trevelyn's corn,
So the young might see the morn.
Now a prison ship lies waiting in the bay."
Low lie the fields of Athenry
Where once we watched the small free birds fly
Our love was on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
It's so lonely round the fields of Athenry.
By a lonely prison wall,
I heard a young man call
"Nothing matters, Mary, when you're free
Against the famine and the crown,
I rebelled, they cut me down.
Now you must raise our child with dignity."
Low lie the fields of Athenry
Where once we watched the small free birds fly
Our love was on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
It's so lonely round the fields of Athenry.
By a lonely harbor wall,
She watched the last star fall
As the prison ship sailed out against the sky
For she lived to hope and pray
For her love in Botany Bay
It's so lonely round the fields of Athenry.

Beautiful but so sad....
Fields of Athenry....

Low, lie the fields of Athenry,

Big Celtic anthem.
Big Celtic anthem.
Yup, Mr Fluffy Thing is a Glasgow Celtic supporter and I first heard the song at the supporters club. just beautiful music. However now that I know the words to it, it makes me cry everytime I hear it....or even think about it.
I'm crying now!
*Rises for the national anthem*
I have been known in my younger years to have danced around in a slightly inebriated state to the Dropkick Murphy's version of the Fields of Athenry
*** gets all choked up ***
