Ray Bradbury the writer has died. He was 91.

He's best known for The Martian Chronicles, The Illustrated Man and Farenheit 451. Much of his writing has been in the form of short stories and I'm currently reading one of his collections, Although he tends to be thought of as a science fiction writer, he never liked that description.

I can remember discovering F451, 1984, A state of Denmark, and various others all at the same time. Happy yet paranoid days!

I did read some of his books. Curriculum in Germany. He was a great writer and had a god innings.

Read Fahrenheit 451 many years ago but didn't get on with it too well but that was more down to my poor command of English at the time.

Still, as an image of a dystopian society, it is far closer to many aspects of today's society than Big Brother, IMO.

Quite a few of them have been.

The Martian Chronicles was made into a short TV series with Rock Hudson.

The Illustrated Man was made into a film with Rod Steiger.

Fahrenheit 451 was made into a film which was directed by Francois Truffaut.

He also did the screenplay for the 1956 version of Moby Dick.
