Quick summary of the ladies final.
On paper you would think that it would be an easy win for Sharapova....her being seeded 2 while Errani is only seeded 21....and the results would suggest that too, being 6-3. 6-2.
However you have to take into account that Errani ha overcome all opposition and got to the final and also that she (along with partner of course) has one the Ladies Doubles Final.
And when you look at the statistics for the match you can see that Errani put up a fair degree of resistance. In fact, even in the last game, when she was staring defeat in the face, she managed to have a break point against Sharapova.
Errani | Sharapova | |
---|---|---|
0 | Aces | 6 |
79% | 1st serves | 60% |
1 | Double faults | 5 |
12 | Winners | 37 |
11 | Errors | 29 |
46% | 1st serve win % | 69% |
38% | 2nd serve win % | 50% |
38% | Receiving pts won | 56% |
2/5 | Break points | 5/13 |
Most of the statistics are in Sharapova's favour, but Errani got more 1st serves in than Sharapova, she made fewer double faults, she made fewer errors over all and she won a slightly higher percentage of her break points.
Interesting match stats!
I think what separates Sharapova from the players that Errani had overcome was her ability to return serve â despite the high percentage of first serves from Errani (79%) it wasnât a good enough weapon to deter Sharapova.
I don't think I've ever seen Nadal as angry and negative as he was last night. The conditions obviously weren't good, you could hear the ball was making a bad sound on contact with the rackets.
Interesting to see how Novak coped with the conditions though.
So glad I have a day off today to(hopefully) watch the conclusion of this final!
And Queen's starts today too......although I expect today might be a complete washout in London.
Have they resumed yet?

Not heard much about Queens, but got the impression that you are right about the washout, Katerina.
Have they resumed yet?
I was at work today so didn't see it, but I understand the men's final resumed at around 12 noon BST.
So they resume with the scores at (Nadal first) 6-4, 6-3, 2-6. 1-2, with Djokovic to serve.
