This is a bit random really but here goes.

The rate technology is moving never ceases to amaze me - i remember my grandad telling me how amazing it was to get a TV set and my nan saying she'd never get on an aeroplane because she was simply awestruck that something so big could stay up in the air.

I remember my own mums delight at acquiring a fridge/washing machine/telephone etc.

How computers have come on - when I worked for a large company in 1972 the huuuuuuge computer took over the ground floor and it was freezing down there with all the fans to keep it cool - apparently the memory size of it was less than a common or garden phone nowadays. I never failed to be amazed at all the apps available on my sons i Pad (love the one that picks up a few notes of a song and tells you what it is).

The thing is what will amaze our grand kids in years to come? Will they be able to teleport and stuff like that?

Sorry for the long random post - I'm trying to take my mind off the drilling and cosy chit chat/whistling etc. of the two old duffers fitting my kitchen.

What are your theories/predictions for the future re technology?

Now there's a thought

I really am boring everyone with this aren't I? - I know because I'm boring myself.

My little Jack (aged 4) was here yesterday and we were stuck in one room surrounded by boxes for yet another day - I said to him

'Oh Jack - I hope the kitchen will be all finished for the weekend don't you?.

he said

'Yes Nanny - it's getting boring now isn't it?'

OMG ...........i can still remember the excitement of getting our first VCR. Mind you I was never more made up than when I got my first phone (land line) - it was when I got married and moved into my first house. At home we always had to go to the top of the road to the phone box.

Yep - I feel like that. I kind of feel that I'm standing still - My son nags me to move on to i Pads and i Phones etc but I can't get on with them. Then again - I haven't really tried - I'm happy with what I've got TBH.

I KNOW!!! I forget to use it though and curse like mad if someone rings while I'm watching something. I'm getting a bit better at it but most of the time I simply forget!

Can we?   I'm further behind the times than I thought

I borrowed my son's smartphone thing to make a call. What a palaver! I had to get him to dial then it was an automated switchboard and I was in a panic because there were no buttons on a pad for me to push to choose my option

Sounds like your like me, Soozy, but loads better

*is impressed with Soozy's cleverness*

Not at all San - your experience on the smartphone sounds exactly like me. My kids pass their phones over for me to look at a pic and I just lightly tough it and everything flies off into space. I'm dead proud that I can actually text (well if I had a phone I could - I put my last one through the washing machine in about October and find I can manage quite well without it).

Edited to say though I'm a bit jealous that I can't join in the scrabble games with other FM's on here.

I remember my Dad having an eight track in his car and we all thought it was the business.   He only god rid of it in the last few years when they moved to a smaller house.
