Golden years.
always had a bit of a crush on Mick hill the javelin thrower. I felt a bit sorry for him - he was hailed a hero and then Steve Backley came from nowhere and stole his thunder.
Brendan Foster, Roger Black ...........Torville and Dean (not athletics but Olympians bone the less).
Roger Black having to settle for 400m Silver in Atlanta against the awesome Michael Johnson.
Black was a consistent medal winner throughout the 1990's and, as i recall, a member of the often heroic GB 4x400m relay team.
Love the 4x4 relay - we are often in contention - very exciting!
Steve Ovett celebrates after winning Gold in the 800m at Moscow, 1980
Heh: I remember the medal ceremony for that. Coe got the silver, of course, and Clive James memorably described him as looking like he'd "just been handed a small, round turd"...
His Lordship looks mortified!
I really liked Ovett and always wanted him to win - but post-Moscow there seemed to be more failures for him than successes.
Brendan Foster, I remember the 1976 olympics (I was 4 turning 5). But I remember staying at home really late to watch Brendan Foster run in some race before we left for our holidays, driving from Durham to Selsey Bill, but Dad wanted to watch his race.
A mate of mine knows his driver these days and reckons the bloke is a right ignorant arse. What a shame.

When my daughter graduated Brendan Foster was the guest speaker. After the ceremony Mr Woo cornered him to discuss his poorly knee due to running - to be fair Brendan was a very patient listener. My lil girl was mortified.
