I have a few, (v few!) 'sentimental' things out Kaffs which make me smile and bring back lovely memories...same with pictures, unless they have sentimental value there's nothing much that I would particularly want to look at every day. My pet hate is 'matchy' ornaments and pics that have no interest other than they 'go' with the 'colour scheme' Just me, I know, lots of other people like that, no imagination, all show each to their own
No, it's not just you, that drives me nuts! A woman I work with paints a bit, and has potential to be really good, but she insists on asking people's colour schemes when she's doing a painting for them and does it to match 
Tbf Slinki, a lot of people like that, I just happen to hate 'matchy' / overly co-ordinated. I do like a certain level of symmetry though, which I know some loathe. Each to their own.
