Oh by the way... me...  the 17 to 21 choice (I think I was almost 19,) and it was the third attempt.  I failed TWICE on the reverse parking and parallel parking, and because I knew I had screwed THAT up, I actually went a bit flustered, and fluffed other relatively simple things.  

First time aged 22 in a Nissan Cherry 

 

Btw, Cupcake, I had a ridiculous insurance quote last month from the company I had been with for 10 years so went on Go Compare and changed companies saving myself 200 quid.

 

Made me feel epic 

I was 21, passed first time

 

I didn't want to learn, but my younger sister was learning and I couldn't face the thought that she would be able to drive and I wouldn't. She took her test before me - but failed her first one, so I ended up passing before her.

 

I felt quite good about that

I was 29.. I'd taken a few lessons 10 years earlier, then moved towns and went back to college and couldn't afford any more (or anything to drive!)  went back to it when I was 29 and passed first time.... and could actually afford to buy something to drive.

 

 

21, passed first time on Valentine's day morning and then went to buy engagement rings at lunchtime  

17-21 and fourth time  daughter is just sending off for her provisional so stay off the roads everyone

I was 22, third time lucky. 

I was 31 when I sat my test and I passed first time.

dunno how I managed it though...  I screwed up my parallel parking & had to emergency stop whilst almost pulling out on an oncoming car at a t junction.

No, don't be silly. In today's world 'minors' are what is referred to as mistakes. Not sure what they called it hundreds of years ago though, could you enlighten me?

18 on my third attempt, both previous fails on reversing.

 

In those days they failed you if you didn't keep both hands on the wheel and feed the wheel round while using your rear view mirror.

I could never reverse easily that way, and I had picked up the (bad)habit while moving cars in the garage of right hand on the wheel, left hand on back of passenger seat and looking through rear window and swing it round. I could reverse perfectly that way.

 

I only passed the 3rd time because I had the same examiner I had for the 1st test who also used the garage I worked in. He (very illegally) gave me  several attempts at the reversing and, after I explained what the problem was he told me that if I could reverse perfectly 3 times doing it the wrong way he would pass me.

Voila!!

I was 39 and passed first time, Neither of my parents ever drove and my brother hasn't either.

 

i was 18 and passed second time, the first time i was transfixed by a kid on a bike wobbling about on the pavement on the other side of the road as i turned into the road.

I was so transfixed that he was gonna do some thing unexpected i pulled out in front of  oncoming traffic, narrowly avoiding a pile up...

23 when I passed - my son and OH were 17

I can see which way these car threads are heading. So I will just say that Renault 4s had a lovely bench seat and Mrs Jer and I were in our early twenties.

I havent even got a provisional! I'm just under 30....yes that means 29 lol

I was 18 and passed the first time in my instructor's Micra. My younger brother passed on his 17th birthday just having a couple of lessons from my dad and older brothers in car parks and maneuvers on our driveway. My first car was an Astra that I drove to the ground. 

Oooooh a LOT of people passing the first time.    I think the younger someone is; the more likelihood that they will pass quickly, as I think you're more confident and less afraid.  

 

My auntie took NINE tests to pass and Lord knows how many lessons.. Well over 200 I think.  She started learning at around 30 (back in the 70s,) and took about 8 tests over 3 or 4 years and failed every one.  THEN she took it up AGAIN about 15 years later in the late 1980s (in her late 40s) and took about 20 lessons; then on her ninth test, she passed.  I remember my mom saying that she thought she would never ever pass!

 

Oh I was 26 and passed on my 4th attempt.  I took one test at 19, after having a crash course that my employer paid for.  Then I gave up til the age of 25 as it knocked my confidence as I had a horrible instructor.  Then at 25, I took about 20 lessons and took a SECOND test, and then failed, and then a month later I took a third one and failed, and then I took another 10 or so lessons and then a few weeks later, I took a fourth test (the third in about 5 months,) and passed!  I was SO happy.  I must admit, I would absolutely HATE to not be able to drive.

 

17th birthday, driving lesson on my birthday in November, passed 1st time in the February...  my daughter is on her 4th test.. failing on the 'maneuver'(reverse parking) why can't they just give her the 'emergency stop' !
