I think kids twig on around 8 or 9 anyway. I had a pushchair for my doll when I was 9 and I recognised my mother's silk underware fashioned into a cover for the baby doll. I really don't think it's lying to your children, you're making magic for them to remember for the rest of their lives. I would hate it if I hadn't had that feeling of excitement and anticipation.

As a little girl, the school I went to always had a Santa Grotto, and they would choose two girls to be his fairies.  I was chosen one year, and I still believed in Santa, and I remember how amazing that feeling was.  I will try to hunt out that pic of me with Santa (aka Mr Glasgow..the school care taker)
