Thanks peeps, but now I'm crying over the horses that didn't make it. I really wish that horses who break a leg aren't shot just because they can't make money anymore. I love racing and this one especially, but I think there need to be some rule changes about the treatment of retired and/or injured horses.

It's actually because they can't be treated. You can't say to a horse, "Keep still and rest up, we've put a pot on your leg!" They have tried it but it leads to more distress.

GJ & Katerina, you are probably right, but I have seen programmes where racehorses have been saved by living in a sling for the duration and having water treatment. It costs money though and won't be racing anymore, although it could easily be a stud or mare or be retired.
