I think there is a bit of truth that women like women who, if they are pretty, are modest about it but overall, many would just prefer a plain or chubby girl with insecurities.
I don't know if the same thing is true of men. Quite possibly is.
That's subjective, of course.
Here's a list of all the first evictees, and who there were up against:
BB1: Sada (over Caroline);
BB2: Penny (over Helen);
BB3: Lynne evicted over Jade by the HMs (first proper public evictee was Alison);
BB4: Anouska (over Fed, Jon and Scott);
BB5: Vanessa (over Dan);
BB6: Mary (over Craig);
BB7: Bonnie (over Glyn);
BB8: Shabnam (over Carole and Tracey);
BB9: Stephanie (over Lisa, Luke and Mario);
BB10: Sophia (over Freddie) [Beinazir was first to go, but was never officially a HM];
BB11: Rachael (over Shabby and Sunshine);
BB12: Tashie (over Aaron and Harry)
While I think some of those support the suggestion, I wouldn't say they all do. There often were perfectly valid reasons for female HMs being evicted early that had little to do with being pretty (or even female).
Mary overplayed the "witch" line, and just came across a bit too wierd (it would be some weeks before that was also true of Craig...)
To some extent, that was also the case with Penny, and there was a definite feeling with some of the public that it would be better for her own sake if she left the house.
Vanessa was the first proper BB5 eviction (after Kitten's ejection and the Bedsit twist), however she didn't come particularly well out of "Fight Night", whereas Dan did.
Bonnie didn't cope well with not getting her suitcase, but if Dawn hadn't left/been evicted, I don't think Bonnie's eviction would have been a certainty.
Anouska has often been cited as a particularly bad case of "jealous viewer" syndrome. It's certainly true that she made one of the disasterous "first impressions" in BB history (she went in "dressed-to-impress", only to stick out like a sore thumb against all the others who had gone for a lower-key look). However, it's worth remembering who she was up against: Scott was the bookies favourite for most of the series and was going nowhere in the first week, whereas Jon and Fed were disliked by the get-along-gang in the house, but loved by the public as they were the only HMs actually doing anything remotely entertaining.
