The tv proggie was quite poor. I am surprised at how virtually everyone on here seems to hate the James Cameron film though. It was actually good. I am quite puzzled. I must admit that I have never heard anyone say that people at the film academy say it shouldn't have got so many oscars either. (as Rawky said.)
for me the reason I didn't like Cameron's film was because there was a lot of historical inaccuracies. I know things change with what we know and learn about Titanic but there was too much that was wrong for me. Also I hated the way they treated Murdoch's character which was so untrue and quite upsetting for his descendents. Whilst appreciating that it was a film for entertainment value, it was based on a true story so they could have handled the story a little better. For instance, you'd think the only 3rd class passengers were Irish when in fact they were French, Irish, and a hell of a lot of Scandinavians!
It was beautifully filmed and the set and costumes were gorgeous and as an aside Leo's character Jack Dawson is alleged to be based on one of the real Titanic passengers James Farrell who is a distant relative of mine
I think I'll stick to my documentaries like the brilliant 2 hour one Ch5 showed last week - now that was worth watching.
I hope the ITV series gets better although considering there's 3 more episodes and the boat is already sinking, I can't imagine what they will do
