I love the Centre for Life, I've never booked in advance, but it wouldn't hurt to be on the safe side.

Stowell Street (where most of the Chinese restaurants are) is only a short walk away from there (10 minutes max).  My favourite place there is King Neptune, never been disappointed and it's good value for money.  Sizzling fillet steak with broccoli and Chinese mushrooms *drools*
