After research it appears to be a former occupier of my house.

Now I have a moral dilema, the person who it is tried to kill his wife by setting a gas canister at the bottom of the stairs and setting fire to it..should I bin it or not?

The guy got time, then when he got out, I'm informed by my landlord that he tried it again at his ex partners next address!

I should still do as I earlier posted - seal the letter, mark it "not known at this address" and put it in a post box. Don't bin it, it's up to the tax office to find out his correct address - they will be able to do this easily and they can then send it to him.

I am an accountant and am used to dealing with the tax people. I don't think you should worry about a moral dilemma - you wouldn't want to find the man knocking on your door asking you what you've done with his cheque.

Thanks.I think he's in jail at the moment anyway. I could write that on the letter as well maybe!

I wouldn't do that as you don't know that for certain, and it's the tax office who will find out where he is.

My mate had something like this the other week, she'd had loads of letters about disability benefit for a guy who didnt live there and sent them all back but still kept getting more. So she opened one and rang the number on it, they took ALL (even NI number) of her details and had to send someone to collect the letter! She only chased it up cos she felt bad for the guy who wasnt getting his mail Re: his benefits!

What a waste of her time, paper and government money sending someone out to collect it
