Entertainer Michael Barrymore has been charged with possession of cocaine and being drunk and disorderly after a car crash.

The 59-year-old was arrested alongside another man at 4.30am on Tuesday after a Citroen DS3 hit a kerb in Acton, west London.

Officers on a routine patrol discovered the crash scene at a junction. It is understood police were unclear about who had been behind the wheel.

Both men have been bailed pending further inquiries. Barrymore - whose real name is Michael Parker - is due to appear at Ealing Magistrates' Court on December 7.

Barrymore, who was once one of the country's most high-profile TV stars, has had a controversial career.

In the 1980s, shows like Strike It Lucky and My Kind Of People attracted many millions of viewers and gave him a salary to match.

He announced he was gay in 1995 and split from Cheryl, his manager and wife of 19 years, after which his career floundered.

Barrymore appeared as a housemate in Celebrity Big Brother in 2006 and was popular enough with viewers to take second place behind "spoof" celebrity Chantelle Houghton.

This guy is beyond help, what a bellend. Take note a man is being critised by me not a woman.

He does himself no favours does he?

I have to admit though, that there never was any proof that he was anything to do with that guy's  death (Stuart Lubbock - the one found in the pool,) hence; he never got charged with anything.  It was Barrymore's party and his pool, but he never forced the drugs into Lubbock, OR told him to go in the pool while he was stoned.

The guy's family tried to make the police prosecute Barrymore, because they wanted to blame someone - anyone - so they could get someone punished and achieve closure.

This happens all the time: when someone dies, the family and friends or partner etc, need someone to blame, and to take a punishment, so that they can try and achieve closure.  If nobody takes the blame and is punished, then it remains raw, because nobody was called into question for their loved one's death...

Fact is, this guy went to wild parties and took drugs, he was an adult in his 30s, and ultimately, he was responsible for his own behaviour and conduct, and probably responsible for his own death.  A decade of enquiries has never proven anything, other than it was an unfortunate accident.

whether he is innocent or not regarding stuart lubbock's death barrymore never answered any questions at the coroners court (which was his choice) which could have indicated what happened - his stubborn refusal to answer questions provokes 1 question - WHY?  it is known that he left his bungalow and rang his agent before the police/ambulance

i do not like him and have never found him to be funny, to me he is like bruce forsythe (another "comic/presenter"  i dislike) who make their jokes at someone else's expense

I agree with you Machel I think exactly the same about Bruce Forsythe and Michael Barrymore. They always had to upstage people and tell you that they were the ones who did the "jokes".
