mum used to make all my clothes when i was little.......

BUY a floor cloth? BUY?? - never!!!

Even to this day my Mum rips up old towels and uses them

I beg her not to - it looks awful

Does she listen . . . .

Last week a wheel fell off my pushchair!! Cant afford a new one this close to christmas so i put it back on and bent the rusted washer (the reason it came off) to keep it on, i just hope it lasts lol

we cut xmas cards up to make name tags

Unused sheets were folded in the winter and used to increase the thickness of our duvets LOL (absolutely true!!)

What?! That makes no sense, why not save the wellies for the next winter? Its not like they wear out quickly

maybe they outgrew their wellies, Saz... cut the toes out  - hey presto, sandals...

 

well.. peep toe wellies anyway...

My mum also never seemed to buy a duster Renton ... And quite often could be seen dusting and polishing with a pair of my dad's old Yfronts

My mum used them for floor cloths.

I still reuse old clothes as cloths, old habits do not die - neither do the clothes lol I use rechargeable batteries for as much as pos, mix expensive dry dog food with Tesco own brand

Twas me dad's old vests - and I still use one as a pressing cloth and mam used to use one to cook the marrowfat peas in on a Sunday after they'd steapt all night on a Saturday

How on earth do you cook peas in a discarded vest??

The vest was cut up into squares and you put the peas in the middle and gather the material and tie off the top with a piece of string or similar 

You do know that Birds Eye put them in a bag, don't you?

Yeah, but it just won't be the same. I know it

Best I can say is me old Mum made a Date pudding wrapped in a teatowel and sealed with a nappy pin.....and was delicious with custard...

Trousers were bought l-o-n-g in our house, taken up (always badly) then slowly but surely let down and down  . . . and down as the years passed and we grew up

I could count the "rims of growth" LOL

My parents were brilliant at mending and making do. My Mum would darn socks and turn collars and cuffs on shirts.

She used to unpick jumpers and use the wool to make other things too.

My Dad grew fruit and veg and could turn his hand to any kind of diy etc - he would make things rather than buy them.

We definitely live in a throw away society. When i visit my elderly mum i go round chucking out cloths and 'things' she uses and replacing them. She sees nothing wrong in old cloths and reused things.  I must buy a packet of new cloths a month, and within a couple of weeks ive chucked them all out again.  Same with clothes, as soon as they look tired or loose a button, out they go. Probably why I will never be a millionaire

Recycling? Didn't we do it with milk bottles and Barr pop bottles off the back of a van years ago

We are the recycle generation!!

We certainly did Renton ... Lots of pocket money to be made out of those pop bottles . And I can also remember something called a pig bin at the bottom of the street , where we put all our perishable scraps , and it was then presumably taken to a local farm .

We kept ducks and chickens and used to have a regular trip around houses collecting bread and other perishables to feed them.

After the pig business in geordie land I'm not sure whether this is allowed now.
