My grand son is four on Christmas day but I'm doing a little party on Saturday for three of his little friends and his brother. it's gonna be a pirate theme (cake, balloons, tableware etc) Any ideas for (really simple) games? Not sure they'll be up to too many rules and complicated bits but - any ideas welcome.

Seeing as its only a small group, they should all be given their own individual Pirate name and personality.
Such as:
Birthday Boy Barbossa
Captain Little Beard
Junior Swashbuck
Jolly Jim Hawkins
Have a 'Search for the Black Spot' Game.
Where you hide loads of little black spots around your house/room etc and give prizes to whoever finds the most...
...can I come? I'm getting excited here.
Hunt the pirate treasure.. chocolate coins in gold wrapping. You know, the Christmas ones.
Something like your hot, your cold.. could be fun.

I have discovered that many of the cube tv show games can be also be done in the house using household items as props, this is also a game the adults can play as well.So if it runs into an early evening you could also do this with them.

A 'Walk the Plank' game
- Get a long piece of cardboard (the shape of a wooden plank) and divide it into 12 spaces (big enough for at least one of them to stand in). Then they take turns rolling a dice, whatever number the roll they move that many spaces on the plank. If they roll more than 12, after so many turns, they're out of the game. The winner being the last one standing.
I just made that up. I'm AWESOME!

This was the sort of ideas I was looking for .....................oooooooooooooooh I've just remembered Mr woo bought a hammock back in the summer (on a frame) - we never used it - could probably utilise that somehow!

its been many decades since I played this game so I had to google it... found instructions on a Brownies website...
(so obviously, replace Brownies with little pirates, & brown owl with Granma Soozy Woo)
Very simply, Brown Owl issues a series of instructions and the last Brownie to do them is out.
And, of course... the last person in is the winner!
As the kids are only 4 yrs old.. I would have someone standing by to receive those who are out... perhaps armed with runner up/condolence party prize (A lolly or something)
Soozy, Ditty's game sounds really complicated...and a bit boring. My 'Walk the Plank' game is far, far better. You should definitely go for that 
I've just looked up how to make pirate hats from newspaper - that might be fun.
Ditty I'd forgotten all about that game - I'll give that a go.

How about a treasure hunt but make the clues really easy for them. I did one a few years ago when my eldest turned 6 (I think). Simple clues like 'somewhere to lay your head when you are tired' were easy enough for them all to work out where the next clue is hidden and if your other grandson is a little older than the birthday boy then he could do the reading out of the clues. At the end there was 'treasure' which in this case could be the gold coins someone else mentioned.
Soozy, Ditty's game sounds really complicated...and a bit boring. My 'Walk the Plank' game is far, far better. You should definitely go for that
