Sorry I don't C&P these into here as often as I should (in my defense I am working like a looney at the moment).. but, this mornings Susan Update was such a fab one I knew I should whack it in here straight away
Susan Update - Susan did great today! She walked, exercised twice in addition to the walk, and she nailed the ventilation reduction trial. She came through all of it with flying colors. Way to go honey!.
That's made me proper smile this morning!

another lovely positive status from Scott this morning
Susan Update - Doctors are beginning to talk more of "when Susan goes home". Doctor Dickenson said tonight that he hopes to remove the trach next week. Hopefully we are getting closer to going home. Susan is stronger every day, and finding it easier to breath deeply. Days keep rolling by outside the windows. Susan is getting lots of cards and well wishes and appreciates them greatly. Thanks friends and family for keeping her spirits lifted. Good night all.
Thanks Scott
Awe that is great news so pleased she is making a good recovery.. it will be lovely when she is well enough to go home ..sending her postive thoughts
Thanks everyone. She is still in the hospital but getting stronger daily. Hoping that she can get out soon. Today is Christmas we are so happy to be able to celebrate with the new lungs. SuBe and I wish Happy Holidays to you and your family. Goodnight.
I know I haven't participated in this thread, but I have been following Sue's progress and am glad to see everything's going so well.
All the best to you both.

! Wishing the pair of you all the best for the festive season and beyond ! Hope Susan's home soon
( and while we're on the subject - Sam Galbraith, a former neurosurgeon and politician here in Scotland, has just celebrated his transplanted lungs' 22nd anniversary! Saw him on TV a week or so back and thought of Sube!)

Do you know (well, you won't really) I think it was him who carried out my brain tumour op, all those years ago.

Susan Update - Susan got her results from her SNIFF test. The test shows that her diaphragm is functioning. That is very good news. There was some doubt on this issue prior to the test. Tonight she will sleep without assistance of a ventilator for the first time. Big step. She continues to make excellent progress. Elizabeth is staying with her Mother tonight. I hear from people all over the world who are praying and pulling for Susan. Thank you. God hears you and we feel you. Time for sleep. Goodnight.

Thanks for thinking of Sube!
22 years is a very long time and certainly a positive goal for Sube. It is remarkable how we are all related through various incidents.

This is wonderful news. I am so pleased for both of you, and your family and friends.
I'm up early cos I have to give the girl a lift to work... so thought I'd C&P the latest from Scott..
Susan Update - Things are beginning to move a little faster now. Dr. Trulock took all of Susan's telemetry off with the exception of the pulse-ox. on her finger. She is almost untethered. She did well last night without the ventilator and now is sleeping without ventilation with a oxygen saturation of 100%. NICE! I haven't heard any estimates lately about when she will get out of the hospital. Still needs to work on gaining some weight first. On that note I will sign off. How are YOU doing tonight?
Its sooooo cool isn't it?
Its sooooo cool isn't it?
It is Ditty - it's wonderful news
Excellent stuff
Susan Update - Dr. Trulock said the magic words, "Susan will be getting out of the hospital next Friday." Hooray! She is getting by on room air, (like we do). Rebecca (Social Worker) informed Susan that she is Barnes-Jewish lung transplant number 1178. (I just call her 8) Today she walked at her target speed for 18 minutes. We celebrated by ordering Papa John's Pizza and bread sticks and watching a video. It was like being home for the evening except .......
We are thankful for all the things we have been blessed with. God is good. We are praying for friends and relatives in need. Good night.

absolutely fantastic news this Morning Scott
Happy 2012 to you both and your family xx
WOW, that's great Scott.
Keep it up Sue.
YESSSSSS!!! Tell 8 nice work! That's brilliant news
What a smashing way to start off the New Year..!
All the very best to you both
Susan Update - Tonight is Susan's last night with a Tracheostomy. Dr Trulock will pull it tomorrow. Plans are going full forward for her release Friday. We now have a few leads on possible dwellings. Things are starting to take shape. Once again there comes a time when one must just turn it over to a higher power. Susan is working on trying to learn all the drugs that she will be taking and when they are due. The current list has 16 drugs on it, but a few of those will drop off once she gets out. We are feeling good about the whole thing.
Please pray for the families of a few at the First Baptist Church in Carrier Mills and Susan Patterson's kid's Grandma Shortie tonight! She has been admitted to hospital with double pneumonia! Please pray for their family and also prayers for The Cowger family.
Sleep well my friends. I hope you all enjoyed the twelve days of the New Year's Holiday. Goodnight.
thanks to Scott for his daily updates and all the best to them
Ta !
Hope the meds aren't too much of a headache to manage - did my mum a spreadsheet thingy when she was ill, and we kept on top of it that way . Maybe a compliance aid would help ? My dad has one of those bubble pack thingies with all the tabs he has to take in one big bubble for each time of day , saves him having to faff about and cuts the risk of mixing them up ?
yesterday
Susan Update - We have found a place to live in St. Louis until Susan gets to come home. Various estimates range from 1 month up to 3 months. It all depends on her regaining strength and weight. The doctors came in late this afternoon and decided to wait until in the morning to remove the trach, just in case something untoward would happen. So, tomorrow will be one of many big days to come for Susan. Seems like an awfully busy day today. Chris came up to spend tonight and tomorrow with Susan. We are always glad to see the kids. Well I have to call it a night in order to get up for work tomorrow. Good night.
this morning
Susan Update - Susan got her tracheostomy out today. Chris got pictures of the event. Pretty neat. Tomorrow is supposed to be her last full day in the hospital. We have met a lot of wonderful people that truly care about their jobs and their patients. Susan walked on the treadmill today with NO oxygen apparatus of any kind. Every day is a new day around here. What was the best part of your day today?
a friend has posted this today - I dont think they will mind me sharing it here to keep the thread as updated as possible
I think it speaks for most of us and how we feel about this lovely couple

I agree with this ... wonderful news
Susan Update - Susan is out of the hospital and "Almost Home". Almost Home is the name of the service that rents the duplex that we are staying in now. We have arranged her drugs (all 16 of them) for the next week in the handy dandy pill container provided by the Walgreen's tucked in behind the SLU and the Children's Hospital. Now it is time to explore some of the local cuisine. Fair warning about the Olive-Roma Tomato-Mozzarella Cheese Salad at Schnucks? First, those are huge garlic cloves NOT Mozzarella Cheese. Second, those Roma Tomatoes are red Jalapeno Peppers. Enough said. Goodnight Facebook Friends. Sleep in peace.
Susan Update - Susan and I officially made it through the first full day out of the hospital. We worked on getting into the routine of the medicine cycle. Susan wanted to find some house shoes so we ventured to Target on Hampton and she got to make use of her motorized scooter to browse the store. We went back to the house and watched TV ordered Papa John's pizza and lazed around. I managed to take my first nap on the couch. Good times! I am starting to thing this may work. We were both falling asleep by 10:00 pm, so we trundled off to bed. Leslie Holsapple- Caldwell gave some pointers for food stops, and we will be trying to get to some of them today. Thanks for the head's up. God has truly blessed us. Every day is like a new adventure. I hope you all enjoy the day.
