Bookie's Perspective
The market makes Anton favourite to go with only Aden offering any real competition, and when the market speaks it is usually right, says Eliot Pollak
Typically a summer sport, Five's slightly desperate shoe-horning of Big Brother into the autumnal television schedule, has presented them with a problem. With telly execs traditionally taking May-September off to slap each others' backs, BB has historically ruled the summer airwaves. This time around however, Strictly and X Factor have guzzled into viewing figures, and most critically, tabloid exposure.
Nowhere is this more evident than on the Betfair market, where I hope the powers-that-be at won't object to me pointing out that our eviction market, is now called an 'elimination' market. That's right kids - evil Brucie has even taken over our language. The swine.
So who will be eliminated? The market suggests it will either be Aden (3.35) or more likely, Anton (1.5). And as Adam Smith first pointed out over 200 years ago, the market is often correct. Friday should be Brian Dowling time for Anton - never a good prospect. He's fallen into the classic BB trap of believing the hype in his head about how magnificent he is. In his mind, guys want to be him, girls want to be with him. As it is, he has failed to impress every single girl in the house, and most of the guys seem to hate him. He is basically Sezer (Big Brother 7) - another cretin with an inflated self image who was heartily gotten rid of at the very first opportunity.
Should there be an upset, Aden will go. In every single way, he's a watered-down version of Anton. The other three - Aaron, Jay and Faye - will all survive to fight another week.
At the top of the table, Alex has taken a fairly firm grip on the winners market, now as short as 2.32 to win. Her main tactic to date has been to do absolutely nothing and it is certainly paying off. Hence any surge of positive activity could find a usurper, and we are by no means recommending a solid 'back' at this stage.
Jay is the big faller of the week, out to 7.2 from second favourite. The demise of his relationship with the lovely Louise has cost him dearly. At the other end of the spectrum, Aaron and Faye appear to be developing very nicely - romantic voters will want to keep them in, and Faye could be developing into a tasty outsider.
