What about as a compromise. He goes those 50 miles but they work on getting him closer while he lives there
I can actually understand he would need his family support...moving him 50 miles away could be a recipe for disaster
if he's borderline he obviously needs some form of help...I can only see his anger erupting being away from his family, he's not a likable chap to make friends easily me thinks
