Why is it that British music is so easily dismissed by America? It's like everything is bloody beneath them... it was the same years ago with the Stone Roses and The Smiths, both were great bands but the US didn't give a shite about it.... yet they are bloody suckin up to Coldplay and Green Day

Green Days best song seems to be Boulevard of Broken Dreams... it won a grammy and it seems their most popular, but really it was a complete rip off of Wonderwall... which didn't recieve anything from the yanks.

Thoughts?

Coldplay are British, not American.

I think the trouble these days is that most UK popular music is manufactured X factor-esque crap and rightly the rest of the world doesn't want to know.  We shouldn't either.

There are many talented British bands which have been hugely successful in the states.  The who, Led Zep, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Erin Clapton.  To name but a few.

Green Days best song sooo was not Boulevard of Broken Dreams! Pick anything off their Dookie album ...  anything before 2004 ish...  The only recent song of theirs that I really like is Holiday.

Personally I think there are great bands both side of the pond..   there is also a hell of a lot of shit on both sides too.

I was a bit proud today when listening to Zane Lowe's Nirvana Nevermind special 2 hour programme (on iPlayer) to hear the remaining members of Nirvana say how they were most inspired by The Sex Pistols (not The Pixies, as is commonly believed).

Do you mean Bush, not Cast? I can name more of Bush's songs because I like them. It's definitely a question of taste, and mainstream appeal, and they are bound to be different in the UK and US.

I did mean Bush, I only realised when I was driving home from Chippenham Station and 'Alright' by Cast came on my stereo.  I can't name another of Cast's either tbh lol
