It's for my old university friend who turns 40 on Tuesday and we are heading up to Sheffield for a surprise party for later today!

Very nice. I can't even do fairy cakes
Brilliant cake, the attention to detail is great.
Love the teeny bananas.
How do you do it LLF? I have some good ideas, but my hands never go along with them.
brilliant LLF !!!! I love it you are really clever. I have tired to make stuff out of sugar paste but im always a bit confused with what stuff to mix with what. (there seems to be powders and all sorts of baffling stuff) what do you use?
Thanks guys! I hope people just recognise who it is supposed to be
Gypsie, I use normal sugarpaste but I will add a little bit of tylose to the paste to make it behave a little better and be capable of being moulded better. I use edible glue to stick bits together and use dried spaghetti as support if I need it but this little chap didn't need any
Cologne, I just plan how I'm going to build the character, some of the Fimo modelling books on amazon are very helpful. But this guy's torso is made from three separate pieces to achieve the rolls of fat thing on his tummy and also his moobs and then I added the fur on the top of that. I'm not great, the books would explain it far better than I could...
AHH thanks LLF, i will google this tylose creature ...ill give it a go x
Your cakes are amazing LLF. I'm seriously thinking about commissioning you to come up with something for my hubby's 40th (10 in leap years) birthday next February 29th.
Fantastic, LLF! Terry Pratchett would be pleased.
I'm sure it went over well, and I hope your friend didn't have a heart attack with the surprise.
Thanks again guys, Suzy if you are serious, just PM me nearer the date
It did go down well, I was really really pleased because I know that my friend is a serious discworld spod and so are a lot of his friends and so it had to be spot on (fortunately Mr. LLF and I are also discworld spods) and when it came out there was a moment of gasps and then all the camera phones came out and everyone walked around the table to get a better shot!!! It felt really good that he was soo happy with it and he had to lever the librarian off and put him somewhere special at home
I am serious LLF. Are you in Leicester? How do I get a cake down to London? I've already got a venue lined up and his pressie, but I was going to leave the cake till a bit closer to the day (I'll need 2, one for his midweek birthday and one more lavish one for the shindig). I don't think I've ever been more organized, but since it's only every four years I do get fair warning
How brilliant is that cake LLF you are one seriously talented lady
It's the "Librarian" from Terry Pratchets Discworld series.
