Yeah, not everything she comes out with is total bollox. She was right about it being to do with eye colour too. I admit it can be a thankless task sifting through the dross for the odd nugget, though.

I suspect she's half-heard and/or half-remembered some stories and facts, ans just got them mixed up...

The thing you have to remember is that as soon as you start talking about "melanin" to any degree, you start getting into certain "political" areas.

If you do a quick search, you will find some references to Nasa using melanin - not to power rockets, but for protection against radiation. However, most of those sources are (from what I can see from a quick skim) politically-biased and therefore unreliable from a scientific perspective.

I think Heaven has (a) read a number of political books of questionable scientific value and (b) not properly remembered what she's read...

Could she mean this

Melanie (rocket)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Melanie is a French solid rocket motor, 16 cm in diameter. The first version was used as first stage of the Monica rocket. It had a thrust increasing from 6.2 kN (Monica I) to 8.2 kN (Monica V) and a burn time of about five seconds. Melanie was later used in several ATEF and ONERA rockets. In the ONERA rockets, such as Daniel, Antares and Berenice, Melanie was placed inside a 22 cm diameter cylindrical housing. This version delivered a total impulse of 48 kN.s with about 22 kilograms of propellant.

Ooh - nice find!

I still think - in the the context of some other things she's come out with but which haven't always been picked up on - that it's more likely that her sources are certain "political" books and websites. She isn't the only person out there who believes NASA uses melanin...

Ra

Other Names: Re Patron of: the sun, heaven, kingship, power, light.

Appearance: a pharaoh wearing the sun disk on his head.

Description: Ra was the almost universally-worshipped king of the gods and all-father of creation. A sun god, he was said to command the chariot that rode across the sky during the day. A king, he was the patron of the pharaoh. Ra is the most central god of the Egyptian pantheon. Ra's position in the pantheon is unusual. He is the only god, apart from Osiris, who is definitely said to be not on the earth. Ra, it is said, is an aging god, still powerful, but too old to deal with his children any longer, so he has gone exclusively to the sky to watch over the world. Horus rules over the earth and the gods in his stead, demonstrating the divine right of kingship.

Worship: Worshipped widely throughout Egypt, Ra was the principal sun god for centuries.

Yeah - Heaven got a little mixed up, but this was another of the things she was essentially correct about.

I was being a little mischievous with my Sun Ra clip earlier, but the point is that she's not alone in her views on that either - not by a long way...
