IBB meets… BB9″s Luke!

lukemarsden

Ex-housemate Luke Marsden known for the phrase, ‘controversy creates cash’, gives us his views on the upcoming series of Big Brother on Channel 5, the series he was involved in and if he wants to see the live feed return this year or not.

First of all, we may as well get it out of the way – we all know there were many Rachel fans out there hence why she won the show, do you have a message for them?
Yes, I actually respect Rachel for doing exactly what she said she would do, go on the show, ‘win over’ the public and then go teaching in Wales. Job done! Oh and yes I still think she acted her way through the entire series and fooled the public.

It’s been few years from when you were on the show, looking back how would you rate your series overall compared to some of the recent series?
I think BB9 was one of the hardest BBs to date. At times we all were physically starving (not to mention electrocuted!) subsequent Big Brother series had it way easier than us, booze every night and constant parties. We had it tough.

Are there some housemates from the series following yours that you would have liked to have spent your time in the house with?
Yeah, I think I would’ve got on well with BB11″s Andrew, also BB10″s Karly and Sophie (aside from obvious reasons!)

The heaven/hell and head of house twist in your series was a like a step towards the American version of the show, have you ever seen the American series and what are you thoughts on it?
I haven’t watched the American version of the show but I have had a few emails from Americans who have told me they prefer the UK version to their own.

We recently published an editorial on our site discussing the elements that make a successful series including the launch twist. What were your opinions on the launch twist in BB9 and do you think there are any other key factors to make it a successful series?
I think the BB9 launch twist/fake wedding task was brilliant, it was fantastic to be thrown into the house straight into a secret task. It was like a badly scripted soap for the first week, priceless TV! I think many factors make it a good series, from the housemate selection to launch night twists.

Channel 5 is bringing the show back later next month, do you have any expectations?
I expect it will be the dawning of a new era for Big Brother, fans will have to let go of  ’the glory days’ of BB5 etc and accept the show has evolved into something they may not like as much.

With reports that the live feed is not returning, will this affect you or do you stick to the highlight shows when watching?
When I was in BB, my parents said the live feed was a god send. Having watched previous years, I’m not bothered about the live feed. I understand why hardcore fans will be upset about not being able to watch housemates sleep but at least Big Brother is back in the first place!

What is your opinion on the new Big Brother eye?
I like the new BB, it’s fresh, different and I think sets the tone for the new generation of Big Brother and the direction of the series.

Do you think Brian Dowling will do a good job hosting the new show alongside Emma Willis on the spin-off?
I think Dowling will be a very passionate presenter he will be able to empthatise with the housemates but I did think they should have chose a complete unknown for the role to really give it a fresh new look

Once BB finishes, and I revert back to being a rational person who understands that no one is perfect, I usually stop hating those that drove me crazy in the house.

This little git is an exception to the rule. I can't even bear to read what he has to say.
