I was watching a TV show a few weeks ago and it was all about what makes us,and it covered the very topic of brain activity when in a coma. Just because there's no physical reaction to things, doesn't mean the brain isn't still functioning kind of thing.
23 years in that state though...blimey!
OMG I read this in an article on the internet.
For the whole time, he was trapped in his own body with no way of letting friends and family know he could hear every word they were saying.
The 46-year-old, who can now tap out computerised messages and read books on a device above his hospital bed, has revealed: "I screamed, but there was nothing to hear."
That last sentence sent a chill through me. He could hear EVERYthing for 23 years!!! But could not make contact. How horrid. It's like the stuff of nightmares.

Some are now questioning whether we should be letting people die when they 'could' be alive. Then again, I would rather die than live 23 years like that guy did.
