Australian police have freed a young woman after 10 hours of tense efforts to defuse a suspected bomb that was reportedly strapped to her body.
The 18-year-old called police at 14:30 (04:30 GMT) to report a suspect device at her home in Sydney's Mosman suburb.(The BBC lunchtime news said that a man had broken into her house and had strapped the device to her)
The police gave the media little information, saying they were examining the device and supporting the woman.
Assistant Commissioner Mark Murdoch later told reporters the girl had been freed and reunited with her parents.
He said the device was still intact, and that there had been some interaction between the woman and the person who planted the device.
The BBC's Nick Bryant, who is at the scene, says there are rumours that the incident was linked to an extortion attempt.
Emergency crews earlier evacuated nearby houses in Mosman, which is one of Sydney's wealthiest suburbs.
Several streets were cordoned off, and ambulances and fire crews rushed to the area.
