I had one done a year or so ago, my grandson when he was 10 months old.  It was on VHS and I wanted to keep it forever, I had it done by a guy in the same county as me and he was quite reasonable.  I did manage to transfer some from my video camera straight on to my DVD recorder by just playing them through the red/yellow/white cables onto the TV.  But it can be quite tricky and I got bogged down in various cables etc.  So certainly worth checking out what's available locally to you.  Good luck.

I asked a company to transfer some VHS tapes of old TV progs

They all refused citing copy right

You can buy a DVD-VHS machine that will do it though
