Apparently from next year until 2018 the Grands Prix will be on Sky, not the BBC!

Which is a complete change from Bernie Ecclestone's statement back in April when he said that such a change was "rubbish".
It's just part of Murdoch's plan that if there is anything worth watching on television you are going to have to pay him to watch it.
Yeah, it's really getting on my nerves now. And who says the motor bikes won't follow. I'm seriously thinking of getting rid and going back to Freeview. I'll see what position I'm in next year.
Well, we've just dumped sky after a series of cheap deals,,,,and I'm certainly not willing to pay him £40 a month just so that I can see All the GPs LIVE.
Just have to make do with the 10 that BBC say they will be showing live and their extended highlights of the others. I think I'll still be a bit grumped about it though.

I know what you mean. I think if I did it the only things I would really miss are the skiing on Eurosport in the winter and if they make any more series of Deadliest Catch which is on one of the Discovery channels.
i'm sure there will be some way of watching it on your pc
you can watch all the premiership matches now
If Trevor Eve's expendable - so's Vettel.
ahhh well F1 has lost another fan. i will not pay sky.
I just watched this short interview with Eccs and I seriously think he's lost the plot now.
don't watch F1 but I feel for those that do it seems most of the good sporting events are now with Sky so it's either pay or go without

I wonder if this is anything to do with them not getting the whole lot as a result of the hacking enquiries Pengy
Always far too dear for the Beeb.
Maybe we'll get Waking The Dead back now

I'm surprised the BBC won't pay up to keep more sporting events on terrestrial TV - most football events/rugby events etc and cricket are on Sky.
Haven't Sky just voted to keep James Murdoch on the board as he's doing such a great job
I think Eccleston has screwed everyone over
And the bloody licence fee will still go up!

Ah, I think I saw something somewhere.
From the Sky news website after they'd just announced that BSkyB unveiled profits of £1bn
Speaking on Sky News, BSkyB chief executive Jeremy Darroch pledged his support for chairman James Murdoch in the wake of the phone-hacking scandal, saying that "the board was unanimous in their support for James to continue".
says it all doesn't it
It certainly does!
Whilst I agree that Murdoch et al are knooobs, it ain't their fault that people like Ecclestone are greedy enough to take their payments. If they had any consideration for the fans then maybe they wouldn't automatically go to the highest bidder. It's all just business to them..be it F1, footie, cricket, darts or whatever else Sky now have.

I can't stand that man he makes me all shouty.

nail on head Mrs B

Yeah, good point.
From the BBC, it's a bit long.
New F1 deal explained

There has been considerable reaction to the news so I feel it's important to explain some of the background behind what has happened.
The headline is that under a seven-year deal starting next season, we will be showing 10 of the races in the F1 calendar, plus the corresponding qualifying and practice sessions, live on BBC TV.
We will broadcast extended highlights for the rest of the grands prix just a few hours after the chequered flag has been waved. Sky will have live action from all races, qualifying and practice sessions.
There has been a great deal of unsettling speculation recently about F1 rights. Amid all the rumour and counter-rumour, our production and on-air team have shown huge professionalism, dedication and expertise to keep delivering the high quality output that has become the trademark of our coverage.
The speculation is now over. This new arrangement extends the BBC's commitment to F1 by a further five years - our existing contract, which gave us exclusive rights in the UK, was due to expire in 2013. But of course it does mean our coverage will not be as comprehensive as it has been in recent years.
So why are we sharing the coverage with Sky when up to now it had just been us?
Ultimately, of course, decisions about which media organisations get the chance to broadcast F1 are taken by Bernie Ecclestone's Formula 1 Management (FOM). But from the BBC's perspective the new set-up provided us with an opportunity to continue our association with this gripping sport, which has captured the imagination of our audiences since it returned to BBC screens in 2009, with viewing figures at a 10-year high this season.
And while our coverage from 2012 may not be as extensive as it has been up to now, the bare facts are that the BBC needs to save money. Given the financial circumstances in which we find ourselves, we believe this new deal offers the best outcome for licence-fee payers.
In a sense this partnership with Sky is another example of how the landscape of sports broadcasting has been transformed in recent years. There was a time when the BBC and other public service broadcasters could expect to televise all the big sports themselves. Now though we have a 'mixed economy', with some events on satellite while others are on terrestrial.
And although this may be the first time the BBC has shared Formula 1 with another broadcaster, there is a long-standing pattern of partnerships between free-to-air and pay TV to cover major sports. So the Champions League can be watched on both Sky and ITV; US Masters golf is now shared between ourselves and Sky (with audiences for that event up this year); and then of course there is the Premier League - with live games on Sky and ESPN, while our ever-popular highlights programme Match of the Day keeps football fans entertained on a Saturday night.
This new F1 arrangement will allow us to tell the story of the whole F1 season for BBC viewers, while providing extended access to the biggest moments in the calendar: including the glamour of Monaco, the excitement of the last race of the season, plus the British grand prix at Silverstone, which remains one of the highlights of the UK's sporting summer.
In addition to our award-winning TV output, we will continue with our exclusive radio coverage on 5 Live and 5 Live Sports Extra as well as our comprehensive F1 website and mobile services and the regular broadcasts on BBC News outlets. We know F1 fans appreciate the extensive multi-platform coverage we offer and, as well as capturing those big moments on TV, we pledge to keep audiences up to date with all the news and action throughout the season, wherever they are.
You will appreciate these are early days, with much still to decide, including some of the detail around our own production. We will let you know as soon as there is more to say on that front - but in the meantime there is the small matter of the 2011 season to focus on.
Ben Gallop is the BBC's Head of F1
I'm upset - its part of my Sundays
Yeah, MONEY! Beeb will only have extended highlights. And what the hell will we be paying our licence fee for. Is it not about time the BEEB went commercial and advertised?
Disappointed at this. They had better keep Wimbledon as it is!!
Ecclestone is a horrid little man.

Katerina, I really fear for any sport on the BEEB now. I think the Motorbikes will be next
Is it awful to say .................................I really won't lose sleep over that? Maybe it's different at trackside - or if you have a bit of a clue what's going on. I can watch and appreciate most sports but vroooooooooooooom, vroooooooooooooooooooom - really does NOTHING for me.
Reluctantly I might be able to see a few of the races that will be on SKY......but am getting flashbacks to when it was on ITV and after the ad breaks they'd show you who'd spun off the track or overtook whilst they were off air for the ads, it used to make my blood boil!
The BBC's coverage of F1 has always been brilliant.
You have your opinion Soozy that's fine, but for those of us that like it, it's just another nail in the coffin.
I think I read somewhere yesterday the BBC saying that a commitment to sport had never been in their remit!
Of course it's not awful Soozy, some people like some things, others like something else. No sensible person can expect EVERYONE to all like the same things. I'm sure there will be things that you like or are enthusiastic about that might bore the pants of some of us.
I heard it was half and half with the Beeb retaining Monaco and the British GP which are the only two I actually watch although the son watches the races when he's in.
Like someone said (Barney I think) you can get feeds all over the web for sports coverage for stuff that's only and sky. The only problem is that as the broadcasters find the feeds they take them down and you have to find another link.
An F1 forum will probably have a thread before each race where fms post links to free online feeds. That's how it happens with the footie.
I do think it sucks though that there is not more live sport on terrestrial tv but that is the power of Sky being able to pay the money because they operate in so many countries.
Feel for you EFFT and the other petrol heads

It has indeed, but at least when ITV had it, it was still available to all
Always far too dear for the Beeb.

I wish.

Thanks Veggie, it kind of puts the kybosh on the F1 thread (in the sports forum)
I've been giving a full 'as it happens' report on every race since we came to GaGa (that's over two years now )....I love it!
I'n a wee bit behind with the reports justnow, but I have it all written down - still typing up Canada.
can i just say, the Title of the thread matches your avatar so well *throws in a life jacket*
Hahaha Temps!
Thanks for the life jacket, btw.
It all boils down to Greed. Pure and simple. I mean a profit of £1b? There's something not right somewhere.
Sky and all the greedy Sports buggers that take their money really pee me off..
I think somebody said that you can usually find some interweb live feed for non sky peeps but if something is being broadcast on the tellybox I want to watch it on my tellybox not on my teeny, in comparison, puter screen.. that also means I have to stay sat in more or less one position instead of the sprawling along my sofa that I can do if I am watching the tellybox..
for me my puter is for puter things and my tellybox is for TV things...
