To my horror, and despite all my regular warnings, my mother has just phoned me to say that she has just been conned out of ÂĢ133 for security software to put right loads of non existent problems on her computer. The nice man who called her said he was from BT, so he must have been OK They got her to log into a website where she could see an impressive demonstration of dozens of nasty viruses and then typed in her credit card details to begin downloading the magic software
She rang me straight away, and I got her to unplug her router, which stopped the download. She rang her credit card company, and they have cancelled her card and will send her a new one. They are aware that a payment might be on its way to her old account which was obtained fraudulently. BUT I am worried that this company will have had remote access to her computer, and she does her banking on line. Is it likely that they can have captured her log in data to her bank account?
