And Vanity Fair have told their own story

http://www.vanityfair.com/onli...med-so-far-away.html

But at the end of the article did say this (to no doubt cover their arses):

P.S. It has occurred to me, as it has occurred to others, that said voicemail may have been obtained other ways than by phone hacking--that perhaps Heather Mills herself may have passed it along for some reason of her own, who knows? British celebrities are not like our own and the tabloid culture over there has bred many mutant strains of behavior.

Bit odd that Guido's only noticed that story now: Private Eye's been going on about it for ages, and of course it was Moron who brought it up in the first place - five years ago...

It's rather like Brooks's comment about paying the police: everyone seemed to just carry on as if she had never said it, because they were too scared to rock the boat. It was only when the story became so huge it was unavoidable that they all turned around and said, "Well of course, she did say..."

Oh it's not - no question.

Following the trial of Mulcaire and Goodman back in 2006, the Information Commissioner published a report that detailed the transactions made by newspapers for illegally-obtained private information. The NOTW only came 5th on the list; The Daily Mail was top (952 reported transactions), with its Sunday version also in the top 4...
