To be fair, the Daily Mail would report they'd found Michael Jackson's missing nose if it meant more hits to their website.

I'm going with trusted sites like the Guardian and BBC (don't trust Sky too much for accuracy even though they usually break the news a lot quicker). But if this is true, then I really do hope this is her. I do find it odd that someone would go to the extents the tourist did if they weren't pretty damn sure there was something to make noise about.

How the hell did whoever did that 'aged' Maddie get her to look like that??

I'd bet I could go to India and find hundreds if not thousands of girls who look like that - but I wouldn't think any of them looked like Maddie.

I wonder if that mock up has been posted everywhere and that is what has made tourists contact the police.

I hope the little girl is her but I can't see it really

The parents of Madeleine McCann are awaiting the results of a DNA test after a young girl suspected of being the missing child was spotted in India.

Kate and Gerry McCann's team of private investigators say they are working with police in the northern city of Leh which lies in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It’s the northernmost state of India and is situated mostly in the Himalayas.

They were alerted after a British woman spotted a girl with a couple that she thought to be Maddie who would now be eight years old.

The woman raised concerns with other tourists who agreed with her. At one point an American man is said to have tried to take the girl from the couple.

However the French woman and her Belgian husband insist that they are the parents of the girl.

Police in the city have taken swabs so that DNA tests can be carried out on the youngster.

A spokesman for Leh police told the Chandigarh Tribune in India: 'It all depends upon the evidence like DNA for which help from Madeleine's parents and the British police was required.'

Madeleine was days short of her fourth birthday when she went missing on a family holiday in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in May 2007.

Clarence Mitchell, spokesman for Madeleine’s parents Gerry and Kate McCann, said: 'Our private investigators are aware of the reports from India over the weekend about a possible sighting of Madeleine.

'We are liaising with the Indian authorities over the incident and await the results of the DNA test.'

Maddie's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann marked the fourth anniversary of their daughter's disappearance privately with family and friends.

They recently launched a book about how she disappeared with proceeds from the book, entitled Madeleine, going towards the funding of their search for their daughter.

Despite a massive police investigation and huge publicity worldwide, she has not been found.

The official Portuguese inquiry into Madeleine's disappearance was formally shelved in July 2008, although private detectives employed by the McCanns have continued the search.

McCann family spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: "The private investigators currently searching for Madeleine have been aware of this report from India for several days, and have been working to establish its veracity.

"So far unfortunately there is nothing to suggest that this sighting is any more credible than any of the many others we have had over the last four-plus years."

Doesn't sound too good.

Absolutely Scotty   How amazing it would be to have Maddie returned to her family.

Triggs    It would be amazing, it`s what they desperately want... but looking at Blizzie`s link ^^^^  it`s not looking too good.

What makes you think that zazz?

I remember when she first went missing, the roads round the place she was staying were all dug up and under construstion...perfect place to dump a body...

I hope that isnt the case, and that I am wrong, But I really believe she is dead tbh.
