Is anyone else watching this?  I'm totally speechless by the attitude of the tourists who are being shown the 'real' side of the Gambia whilst they are on holiday.  They are such complete airheaded prats - I can't believe people like this really exist or that they could be so ignorant about how such a large proportion of the world lives.   I am really cringing to think that they are the same nationality as me.

when i went to jamacia (sp) we were told NOT to leave the complex-i wanted to but i didnt, people who lived the other side of the complex fence offered us 'protection' to go to a club if we paid them money, i was tempted though..but i didnt

I'm watching....it seems very formulaic.

The only thing keeping me watching is the footage of The Gambia itself, I've been there on holiday and have recognised a couple of places, I went to the beach where all the fishing goes on too.

I hope other people haven't switched off because of the morons taking part in the programme. The Gambia is well worth visiting, the people are so friendly and fun-loving.

My only regret was that I didn't take pens, paper and other stuff to give to the kids at the school I visited. Just had no idea what it would be like and it really opened my eyes.

I've been to plenty of places where we've been warned about the supposed dangers of leaving the comfortable resort complex.  I've always done my own research about anywhere I've visited before I've gone, and wouldn't want to go anywhere where it really was unsafe to go out.  In the case of the people in this programme, they freely said that they woudl never dream of leaving the complex, and I don't think the Gambia is somewhere where you couldn't walk around alone.  Why would anyone want to go to an exciting destination like that and stay in the hotel complex, and not see the real country?  I don't understand why anyone would bother to go somewhere like that if they weren't interested in seeing the country an finding out about the culture.

You can't walk around alone in The Gambia, because the locals will sidle up and start chatting to you all the time

My mother and stepfather went to the Gambia a few years ago, and walked around on their own quite a lot without a problem.  They had quite a lot of locals talking to them, but were really pleased to meet people other than tourists.  When I go away, the last thing I want to do is spend time with other British people - I go to interesting countries partly to meet people from different backgrounds and cultures.

Absolutely, Growly. Can't understand people who go abroad and then stick to talking to and making friends with those from the same country as them!

The only thing I found scary was taking a fast Gambian taxi ride one night, they are crazy, lol
