2 weeks ago i had a phone call from school to say my daughters foot needed medical attention, another pupil had slammed a door onto her foot causing half of her big toe nail to bend upwards at a 90 degree angle exposing the nail bed beneath.  *pauses whilst everyone winces..................     she has had to go back to the hospital twice more, meaning three days (parts) off school, untold pain (she needed gas and air when the doctor bent the nail back into place before springing back out again) disrupted family life (due to medical condition i cannot drive) as elder daughter/sil ferry her to and from hospital,  she could only wear flip flops and had to avoid rain/water (having a bath was no fun!), no sports day,  the school has promised to "look into the matter"  but there has been nothing as yet, so,

am i being unreasonable in expecting a response?  the pupil being punished?

I think you should have had an apology from the school already, and been updated on the investigation so far. It can't take that long to figure out what happened and who it was, schools are full of people, plus your daughter knows who did it.. I think it needs chasing up I hope they treat you right and I hope your daughter is recovering alright

Machel you're not being unreasonable.  It sounds to me that the school might be hoping it will all go away if they don't communicate with you.  There's no way their action (or the lack of it!) could be termed reasonable.  I think you should contact them and ask what steps they have taken to resolve the issue.  Your poor daughter....

i used to be a school governor and teacher,  though not at this school, and so i have some sympathy for the staff, even if it was an accident the pupil should not be using such force to open a door (and it had a glass window!),  as parents had to be called and medical attention sought it should be in the accident book, where there is usually space for "follow -up actions"

I was lucky! I managed a broken wrist, and assorted fractured toes and fingers in school realted injuries. But one could always find someone with a pot on their leg or arm.

I agree with Lilibet, if it wasn't deliberate put it down to experience.

If it was deliberate and you wish to persue it then seek expert help. It's you against, "The good name of the school!" and everything that entails.

i'm not interested in litigation, i want to know what the school thought and why the pupil did what he did.  it was either deliberate and therefore needs to be punished or it was an accident and someone needs to have a word about using excessive force. although the injury sounds minor it was extremely painful and it did disrupt her life (school and social)
