I think the point is that the wording of the OP implies that the wristbands are an entry requirement ("visitors must write their mobile number on it"): if the parents don't have a mobile on them, the family can't get in...

I know what you mean Growly but I don't think there are many parents who haven't had that heart stopping moment when you're out and you suddenly realise that you've lost sight of a child even if for a few seconds.

It's a good idea I think - mind you, when mine were really small I was the embarrassing parent who had them on reins!

My elder grandson who's 2 and a half has a little backpack which has a 'lead' attached so his mum and dad can keep hold of him

Really?

Yes, really: and remember we're talking about the Tower of London, where a lot of the families will be foreign tourists.

As a feature, the idea sounds a good one, However if it's made an entry requirement, then that's out of order, IMO...

Exactly! The last time i was there, it was mostly Americans and Japanese. They had mobiles!

Just had a look at the official site, and the wristbands are not a requirement:

Wristbands
Wristbands are available free of charge from our Welcome Centre on Tower Hill. Please pop in and ask a member of staff for one before you enter the Tower.  All you need to do is write down your mobile number on the band and slip onto your child.  We’ll use that number to help us reunite you as quickly as possible, should you become separated.

Well in that case, I think it's a good initiative for people who want to take advantage of it and are in a position to do so.  I think it would have been wrong if they had made this compulsory.

Japanese and American mobiles don't automatically work in the UK. Americans in particular often need to get a different phone if they come to the UK, as the main mobile system in the States is different to that in the UK.

Well they seem to work in Edinburgh, on the anticipation of The Festival starting , the town is full and mobiles dont seem to be a problem!
